Moving in Delhi: what you should know
- Commercial-vehicle no-entry windows. Most Delhi arterial roads bar medium and heavy goods vehicles during the morning and evening peaks — roughly 7–11 a.m. and 5–9 p.m. Loading and unloading are therefore planned for midday or early-morning slots, and your crew will confirm the workable window a day before the move.
- GRAP winter restrictions. Between October and January, GRAP stages can suspend diesel goods vehicles below BS-VI (and occasionally most diesel trucks) inside Delhi when air quality turns severe. If your move date is flexible, asking for a CNG/BS-VI vehicle during this period avoids last-minute rescheduling.
- RWA gate passes. Most organised colonies — Dwarka and Rohini CGHS societies, Gulmohar Park, Vasant Kunj pockets — expect a move intimation to the RWA or managing committee 24–48 hours ahead, along with the vehicle's registration number. Resident tenants should keep their landlord informed the same way.
- Narrow-lane shuttle transfers. Old Delhi, Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar's market lanes and parts of Shahdara cannot take a 32-ft container. The convention is a two-stage move: a small covered tempo shuttles between your door and the full-size truck staged on the nearest main road. This is quoted as a separate, visible line.
- Parking and height barriers. Service lanes on the Inner Ring Road and several colony entries have ~3.5 m height barriers that stop large containers. Crews check approach roads during the pre-move survey and pick the largest vehicle that can legally and physically reach your gate.
- Peak season: March–July and the last five days of every month. Delhi's peak moving rush follows the school and job-transfer calendar: March to July is the busiest stretch, with month-ends tightest for truck availability. Winter moves are calmer but watch for GRAP-related vehicle restrictions after Diwali.
